Hi all!
Dr. Snyder sent some of the Math Club officers a couple emails pertaining to graduate and undergraduate students wanting to conduct some research, possibly out of state, with SCGSR or University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Here is a bit of information I have collected from each website:
SCGSR:
http://science.energy.gov/wdts/scgsr/ is the organization's website. This fellows program, hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE), is a way for graduate students in STEM fields to help bolster their graduate theses, all while conducting research over a time span of 3 to 12 months in part with a DOE laboratory scientist. This program is open to any graduate student with a STEM major (correct me if I'm wrong). The program application deadline is April 14, 2015, at 5:00 pm.
UNL:
http://www.unl.edu/summerprogram/ is the organization's website. This REU was set up to help undergraduate students with research on the University of Nebraska - Lincoln campus in areas they may not be able to examine otherwise. The program has several different fields of research, including Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Optics and Laser Physics, and Virology, just to name a few. This program is open to undergraduate students with a STEM major, but the committee prefers entering Junior- or Senior-level students with at least one full semester left prior to graduation. The program application priority deadline is February 1, 2015, with a hard cutoff date of March 1.
If you are interested, go check out the organization website to get more information and apply! You can always turn down an offer if your plans change for over Summer.
Nerd up!
